Description

This coffee is a true rare specialty coffee—and one we hold especially close. The Gesha varietal has become one of the most celebrated coffees in the world, often chosen by barista champions for its expressive aromatics and refined structure. Its rise began just over 20 years ago in Panama, when Hacienda La Esmeralda won the Best of Panama auction with Gesha, introducing the coffee world to a varietal unlike anything before it.

In 2015, Alejandro reached out to CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) in Costa Rica and secured 200 grams of Gesha seeds from their varietal garden. After careful nursery preparation, approximately 300 trees were planted in 2017 at the highest lot on our family farm in El Salvador—chosen specifically for its elevation and growing conditions.

El Salvador Gesha – Owner’s Reserve Rare Specialty Coffee

Our farm produces extremely limited quantities of this Gesha, which we consider our Owner’s Reserve. This year’s harvest yielded just 15 kg, naturally processed on raised beds directly on our farm to preserve clarity and sweetness. Because of its rarity, we chose to share this coffee thoughtfully—by including it in our Coffee Advent Calendar.

In the cup, expect a juicy profile with bright, medium acidity that lingers beautifully on the palate. Elegant, expressive, and deeply personal, this El Salvador Gesha reflects years of patience, experimentation, and care—offered as a rare glimpse into what specialty coffee can truly be.

Choosing Your Grind

For the best flavour, we recommend whole beans and grinding just before brewing. This gives you more control and keeps your coffee tasting its best.

If you’d like it pre-ground, we’ve matched each grind to your brewing method:

Fine: Best for espresso and moka pots.

Medium-Fine: Ideal for pour over (V60) and AeroPress with shorter brew times.

Medium: Perfect for drip coffee makers and flat bottom pour overs.

Medium-Coarse: Great for Chemex, Clever Dripper, and longer AeroPress brews.

Coarse: Best for French press, percolator and cold brew.

Storage

Keep your coffee in a cool, dry place, away from light — a pantry is perfect. Store it sealed in its original bag or an airtight container to protect its flavour.

Because we roast to order, your coffee arrives just as it’s approaching peak flavour. For the best experience, enjoy it within 4 weeks, and up to 4 months overall.

We don’t recommend freezing, as it can affect flavour and consistency.

Rooted in Farming, Roasted in Calgary

Our roots go back four generations to our family farm in El Salvador. Since 1994, we’ve been roasting fresh coffee in Calgary—bringing together what we grow and what we carefully source from exceptional farmers around the world.

We understand coffee from seed to cup. Every bag is roasted to highlight each bean’s profile—from medium to dark roast coffees—so you can enjoy a cup that’s balanced, consistent, and full of character.

We believe great coffee should feel personal—supported by thoughtful service, genuine care, and a community built around a shared love of it.
