Our Costa Rica coffee beans Aquiares Esperanza offering is a deeply personal coffee for our family and a beautiful expression of origin, history, and innovation. Grown in the lush Turrialba region, this coffee comes from Aquiares Estate—one of Costa Rica’s most renowned farms, founded in 1890 and now a global model for carbon-neutral coffee production.

Aquiares means “land between rivers” in the Huetar language, and Turrialba holds a special place in our story. During the 1990s, our father managed a macadamia plantation in the region, intercropped with coffee, and we spent many days in this rainy, fertile valley surrounded by farms and sugarcane fields. The region is also home to CATIE, one of Central America’s leading agricultural research centers, whose seed collections have influenced coffee farms across the world—including our own family farm in El Salvador.

This lot features the Esperanza variety, a rare F1 hybrid created from Sarchimor and a wild Ethiopian varietal. Washed and slowly dried on raised beds in solar dryers, the coffee is expressive yet refined.
