Coffee Advent Calendar: Colombia Sierra Nevada

This coffee comes from smallholder producers working with COOCAFE SN in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, one of the country’s most distinctive growing regions.

Here, high-elevation coffee farms sit unusually close to the Caribbean coast, creating a microclimate shaped by warm coastal air, humidity and cooler mountain elevations. The coffee is carefully hand-harvested and washed, with the cooperative supporting producers through agronomy, post-harvest practices and quality evaluation.
The result is a coffee rooted in both place and collaboration, with the structure and consistency that make it especially well suited to a deeper roast.

COOCAFE SN brings together smallholder coffee producers, 88 in total, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the municipality of Ciénaga, Magdalena. Formed as a cooperative to improve market access and strengthen production practices, it provides a more stable framework for farmers working in a region where terrain, climate, and isolation can make coffee production more challenging. Through collective organization, producers are able to coordinate efforts, share knowledge, and approach coffee as a more sustainable long-term activity.

We roast it darker to bring forward its cocoa, caramel and roasted-nut character while keeping the cup balanced rather than overly smoky. It’s a rich, satisfying profile.
