Hi, it’s Alejandro here.
I have exciting news: Bali Blue Moon coffee is back at Crickle Creek for a limited time.
Grown in the Kintamani Highlands of Bali and freshly roasted in Calgary, this Indonesian specialty coffee is known for its caramel sweetness, nutty character and smooth, velvety body.
It is a fan favourite that our community regularly asks us to bring back. But for me, this coffee is also deeply personal because it takes me back to one of the greatest adventures of my life.
Why Bali Blue Moon Coffee Is Personal to Me
In my twenties, I was living in Costa Rica, working in finance and thinking much more about surfing than coffee.
One day, I decided to chase waves across the world and spent a month travelling through Bali. With a surfboard under my arm, I spent my days surfing, exploring the island and eating local food. At the time, I had no idea that Bali even produced coffee.
Decades later, it is almost hard to believe that I now grow, select, roast and cup coffee for a living.
Funny how life works, right?
The same island where I once went searching for the best waves now produces one of my favourite coffees: Bali Blue Moon.
That is one of the things I love most about coffee. It connects us to places, people and moments that shape who we become.
What Makes Bali Blue Moon Coffee Special?
Bali Blue Moon comes from the Kintamani Highlands, a mountainous coffee-growing region in northern Bali.
Coffee farming in Bali is shaped by strong community traditions. Many growers work together through local farmer groups known as Subak Abian, while the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana emphasizes harmony between people, nature and the spiritual world.
That sense of balance can also be felt in the cup.
Bali Blue Moon is processed using the traditional Indonesian wet-hulled method. This contributes to its rounded body, gentle acidity and smooth, grounded character.
What Does Bali Blue Moon Coffee Taste Like?
Bali Blue Moon coffee has a velvety texture, caramel sweetness, mild acidity and comforting nutty notes.
It is rich without feeling heavy and smooth without becoming flat. The result is an easy-drinking, balanced cup with plenty of quiet character.
This is a great coffee for anyone who enjoys a full, smooth body but prefers less brightness than is commonly found in lighter African or Central American coffees.
