Hi, it’s Alejandro here
Exciting news! Bali Blue Moon is back as our featured coffee, and only for a limited time. This one is special.
It’s a fan favourite that our community always asks for, loved for its smooth sweetness and easy-drinking balance. But for me, it’s also deeply personal since it takes me back to one of the best adventures of my life.
Back in my twenties, I was living in Costa Rica, working in finance and thinking more about surfing than coffee. One day, I decided to chase waves across the world and spent a month in Bali. Surfboard under my arm, I spent my days surfing and eating local food, completely unaware that the island even produced coffee.
Decades later, it’s almost hard to believe I grow, curate, roast, and cup coffee for a living now. Funny how life works, right? The same island where I once went seeking the best waves now offers one of my favourite coffees, Bali Blue Moon. That’s the beautiful thing about coffee, its ability to connect us to places and moments that shaped who we are.
What makes this coffee so special isn’t just its taste, it’s the spirit behind it.
Balinese farmers live by Tri Hita Karana, the harmony between the environment, humans, and God. Their farms still follow Subak Abian, an ancient irrigation system created more than a thousand years ago. Everything they do is guided by balance and respect for nature, with no pesticides and no shortcuts. The result?
A cup that feels grounded and gentle, with nutty notes, caramel sweetness, and a velvety, low-acid body. It’s calm, balanced, and full of quiet character — just like the island that inspired it.
Region: Kintamani Highlands, Bali (1,200–1,600 masl)
Varietals: Bourbon & Typica Process: Wet hulled Expect: Velvety texture, mild acidity, caramel sweetness And yes, I’m definitely planning on going back someday… maybe not to ride waves (that part has been a little neglected since moving to Calgary), but for a coffee trip this time.
