Kivubelt was created with the goal of creating a model coffee plantation with sustainable agriculture, empowerment and impact in local employment as its key tenets. Kivulbelt has grown significantly since it began more than twelve years ago and their plantation now employs 400 workers and has more than 90,000 coffee trees. Furthermore, it purchased the Murundo washing station where it works with 500 smallholders near the shores of lake Kivu and provides support and training. The coffee has a nice floral aroma and notes of cherry and dark chocolate. A medium acidity in the cup, it has a muted sweetness that is present but not overpowering.
